amaze-buns.

I was perusing through "A Cup of Jo" {which i'm sure a lot of you do...} and I came across this adorable hair tutorial to create three twisted buns. You will die over how cute and easy it is!

Here are the directions:

1. This style is so easy, it's laughable. Day-old hair is best (which is true for most hairstyles, since it's easier to work with hair that has a little dirt in it).

2. Divide your hair into three equal parts and quickly spray each section with a little hairspray to help give it hold. Let the hairspray set for a couple seconds, and then lightly comb it out.

3. Take the section on your right side, and twist your hair all the way down to the end. You want to twist counter-clockwise, toward your face. Wrap the right section in on itself, just like you're making a little bun. Let some of the hair stick out, it's ok (you don't want them to look like Princess Leia buns).

4. Pin the right bun in place. I like to use these
mini bobby pins, since they're easier to hide and they're coated in rubber so they hold your hair better.

5. Next, twist the middle section clockwise and pin. Then twist the left section clockwise and pin.

6. Spray the three buns with a little more hairspray, and you're done!

See? Super simple!

Thank-you, thank-you for sharing Joanna! I love discovering new ways to pull my hair back! What a cute idea. I can't wait to try it!!

I just can't get enough.

Well, if you can't tell by now, I am obsessed with all things Pureology. However, there are a few other products that I love and can't live without! Here is a collaboration of the products I use on a daily basis on my hair. Take it for what it's worth!!

#1- Pureology Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner- I love this product so much. Pureology is an all-natural product line, made from all sorts of vegan products. It's delicious for your hair- nourishing, replenishing, and smells heavenly. I especially love the conditioner which contains peppermint and corn mint essential oils. It gives your scalp that nice, tingly feeling.

#2- When I want to use a more budget friendly shampoo & conditioner- I always use Redken Real Control.  It always leaves my hair feeling silky smooth and shiny. It has a really clean and refreshing smell. It never dissapoints!

#3- Redken Anti-Snap- This is an amazing leave-in product that you apply while hair is still wet, before styling. It's loaded with proteins that keep your hair strong and resilient. I have personally used this to save my hair after a perm gone bad. {I know... perm!?} And I can't forget to mention that it smells AMAZING!!

#4- Pureology Shine Max- This is a smoothing serum that I usually apply while my hair is still wet, and again when my hair is dry. I run it through my dry ends and it instantly adds mass amounts of shine. It's a small bottle, buts last forever!

#5- I love finish off my every day look with Pureology InCharge Hairspray. It has the perfect amount of hold. Not too stiff, not to soft. I especially love it when styling my hair in loose curls. It still allows lots of movement. And of course, IT SMELLS GOOD!!

So there ya have it, friends.
 Those are my
"can't live without" hair products.
 What are yours?

Malibu Barbie.

Since it's already been 4 days since the long-awaited Oscars 2011, the blog\internet world has been buzzing non-stop about the unforgettable fashion.
For me, I was surprised to see this retro-inspired ponytail on Reese Witherspoon.
I think it was a refreshing spin on the usual red-carpet hair.

Doesn't she look like she just stepped out of her pink barbie car?

To Achieve this look:

  1. Start by using a volumizing mousse throughout your wet locks. You can also use a root-lifter to give it the added boost.
  2.  Blow-Dry your hair with a round-brush, giving it the maximum amount of volume.
  3. Using a 1" curling-iron, curl the ends of the hair loosely.
  4.  Back-comb the top sections of your hair and then gently smooth it back as you pull it into your pony-tail.
  5.  Finish the look by using your favorite hair-spray to tame any fly-aways and keep hair in place all day.
I love her whole look. A heavy-lined eye with a matte pink lip and those to-die-for emerald earrings. She looked very retro-glam.

Hot off the press...

She has done it again. Jennifer Aniston- chopped her hair off! She is such a trend-setter that it won't surprise me one bit if 75% of the women in the world go and chop their hair off too! Hey, who knows?....Maybe even me!

Here is Jen before at the Premier of "Just Go With It."
{we're pretty much bff's, so I call her Jen.}

After: At "Just Go With It" photo call in Madrid.

I just love Jennifer Aniston. Every night I say my prayers that I will look half as good as her when I am her age!! Just kidding. But seriously, she is smokin!!

So what say ye?
Do you love her cut?
Or do you think she should keep it long?

I am busy being inspired...

I am so excited! Today I am at an all-day training with an incredible hairdresser, Phillip Wilson.  He has an incredible amount of talent and some of his clients include Andy Warhol, The Who, wealthy private clients- actors, authors and royals.

The hair school that I went to, Taylor Andrews, brings Phillip to the school every now and again for the amazing opportunity to drink up his knowledge and skill.

Ever since I have been out of a salon and just doing hair at home, I have been CRAVING some inspiration.  When I heard Phillip Wilson was coming to town, I knew I had to go. I feel like it's so important to continue my education and keep my passion for beauty alive.  I am so excited to come home tomorrow and feel inspired and renewed. And I can't wait to try all the new techniques I learn!

Anyway, just thought I would share! To learn more about Phillip, read THIS article.

Also, if you are thinking of going to hair school, check out Taylor Andrews Academy. I had an amazing experience there!

Stress- Free Hairstyles...

Trying to come up with new ways to do your hair everyday can seem quite daunting sometimes. {At least for me...} I usually end up pulling my hair up in a ponytail most of the time.

Here are 9 easy ponytail alternatives for you to try.
{brought to you by glamour.com}

#1- Rock an over-the-shoulder braid.
Meet the new wherever-whatever hairstyle: A little bit sexy, a little bit sweet, Selena Gomez’s style works for day, night, weekends and any other time. Give yourself a deep side part, then gently swoop your hair over to one side. Braid lengths, then secure the tail with an elastic that matches your hair color. Perfection is not the goal—if little pieces stick out, no biggie.

#2- Pin back the top sides.
You gotta love a style you can do even when you’re running really late—Drew Barrymore’s look will take you all of 60 seconds to whip up. Just rub a tiny bit of shine serum between your palms and apply it to your ends. Run a paddle brush through your hair, then pin back the sides with bobby pins, letting a few wisps fall here and there. Done!

#3- Dress up your bun.
For an elegant but unboring bun like Jessica Biel’s, tease your crown with a rattail comb to give it a little retro-feeling volume before pulling it into a bun. Slide on a satin headband or wide ribbon and go!

#4- Try a textured updo.
Got natural curls or waves? Show them off like Taylor Swift. Loosely pull big sections of hair back toward the center of your head, twirl and secure with pins. If you want to do something a little extra spiffy, try bobby pins with rhinestones or another sweet add-on that’ll peek out through your ‘do.

#5- Pouf up the front of your hair.
To do the Brigitte Bardot thing like Scarlet Johansson, grab the sides of your hair and make an X with bobby pins to keep the pieces in place. (Or, if your hair is thicker, swap out the pins for sturdier metal barrettes.) Push your hair forward from the crown to create volume, add a few more pins in the back and blast the pouf with hairspray.

#6- Experiment with a mini hair bump.
Take a section of hair at the top of your head, right above your forehead, then gently twist and tug the front to create the bumplike volume. Secure with pins or a barrette. Leave the rest loose, or to glam the look up a bit, curl your ends with a 1-inch-barrel iron. Bonus: It’s a great way to deal with unruly bangs on a steamy, frizz-inducing day.

#7- Revisit a classic hairstyle.
Don’t call it a comeback, but old-school French braids like Amanda Seyfried’s are having a moment. Channel your inner sleep-away camper to craft the look yourself, or if it’s too tough to tackle this on your own, enlist reinforcements. (That’s what friends are for, right?)

#8- Tie a little topknot.
Feeling girly? Wear an über-high ballerina bun with a flirty dress during the day. Simply pull hair into a high ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Tightly twist and wrap the length into bun shape, then pin into place.

#9- Add two tiny braids to any 'do.
For a boho vibe like Miley Cyrus’, braid small sections of hair on each side away from the face, then tuck them into loose, unstyled lengths and pin. So cute!

Rapunzel.

We saw "Tangled" last weekend. It was so so cute. It got me thinking about her luscious locks. Would I really want hair that crazy thick\long? Probablly not.

But man, if my hair was thick enough to do something like this...

that would really be sweet.
That is some crazy braid action!

Ombre.

Everywhere you turn in the media, you can find celebrities with this hot new hair trend. Ombre is what we call it in the hair world. It is a look that is more "user-friendly" because you don't have to worry so much about re-growth. It's great for low-maintence people who don't want to visit the salon every 6 weeks.

I did this look on my client (and friend) on Monday afternoon. It turned out so gorgeous on her! It is such a fun way to add dimension and color without the traditional "weave."

Here are my girls, LC and Whitney, rocking this new trend, blonde style. They, of course, look amazing.

Or you could do it Lady Gaga Style...

or NOT!! ha ha....

Salon Day with Meg

Yesterday, I had the privilege of doing the beautiful,
Meg Fee's hair.
Have you seen her blog?
She is such a beautiful person- inside and out.
She has a beautiful way of writing and expressing herself.
You should get to know her!

Anyway, we had a great time chatting
and getting to know one another.
She is living here in Utah for the Summer!
{being JULIET in Romeo & Juliet in Provo}

She even surprised me with this
beautiful bouquet of Sunflowers!
So Sweet!
I am starting a new "series" where I am going to ask some fellow bloggers their top 5 or 10 beauty secrets.
I think I'll have to ask Meg to be a featured guest!!

Stay tuned!
